1Breadcrumb at Finke 2024
On 10 June 2024, Max Cuthbertson, Customer Success Manager at 1Breadcrumb, achieved an incredible milestone by completing his second Finke Desert Race through the rugged terrain of Australia.
The Finke Desert Race
The Tatts Finke Desert Race is not just any race; it’s an adrenaline-pumping, off-road, multi-terrain adventure for bikes, cars, and buggies, held annually in the heart of the Australian desert. Over 600 brave competitors tackle a gruelling 460km course, cheered on by a spirited crowd of 12,000 camping enthusiasts who line the racetrack.
Held each year on the King’s Birthday long weekend in June since its debut in 1976, the “Finke” has earned its place as one of the Northern Territory’s most significant sporting events. Its reputation for being one of the toughest off-road races in one of the world’s most remote locations only adds to its allure.
The course is a challenging round-trip from Alice Springs to the Finke River in the Aputula community. Racers navigate along sections of the Old Ghan Railway service track, winding through classic outback terrain filled with red dirt, sand, spinifex, mulga, and desert oaks.
King of the Desert: Max Conquers Finke
Armed with a Suzuki RM-Z450 and sporting a custom-designed 1Breadcrumb bike helmet, Max embarked on his mission to conquer the Finke Desert Race once more.
The process of designing the helmet decor was a journey in itself. We went through several iterations, collaborating on ideas and refining the look until we all agreed on a design we loved. The final result was nothing short of fantastic, showcasing both style and functionality.
Despite facing formidable obstacles, including a blown front tyre, a broken steering stabiliser, seized suspension, and a snapped footpeg, Max’s determination saw him through to the finish line in an impressive 7 hours, 53 minutes, and 11 seconds (Day 1 Time: 3H 52M 29S | Day 2 Time: 4H 0M 42S).
Max’s achievement is a testament to his grit and perseverance, qualities that he brings to his role at 1Breadcrumb every day. His journey through the Finke Desert Race is not just a personal triumph but an inspiration to all of us at 1Breadcrumb and beyond.
Congratulations, Max, on completing this extraordinary race and showing us all what it means to push beyond limits and overcome challenges with unwavering determination.
Let’s celebrate Max’s incredible achievement and look forward to supporting him in his future adventures. Keep racing, Max!
